Hair Care Routine.
Hey Guys!
If you know us, then you understand how we are with our hair. We schedule days when to wash it, and can't leave the house without fixing it somehow. Despite the high maintenance with our locks, we understand, and follow through with the importance of hair care. A girls hair can seriously change her whole look. We want to show you the ways we do this after years of figuring out how exactly to do so. From triple barrels to bleaching we finally realized the life of your hair means so much more than whatever style is in that year. We've come a long way from scrunching our curls with a tresemee product, and finally can give some dos and donts of hair care. One thing we know is everyone is different when it comes to these processes, so we decided to embrace that and show you each of our routines so you can get a few perspectives.
RAYS HAIR CARE
I don't wash my hair everyday, I'd like to think of myself as a dirty hippie sometimes. Yes, thats correct, I do not wash my hair. Well, I do. But very, very rarely. In fact, I schedule the days when I wash it. You have natural oils to protect your hair, and keep it healthy, but when you strip these everyday it can take a toll on your hair. I use dry shampoo after a few days to help prevent the 'greasy look'. I also do not blow dry it after a shower, and try to embrace the natural waves I've got going on.
I use coconut oil. Before I wash it, I put coconut oil on the ends/up to the middle of my hair. Don't put it on the thinner hairs or on your scalp unless you want extremely greasy strands afterwards. I leave it in for about an hour, then get in the shower! Coconut oil always leaves my hair so soft and manageable (does not cure all problems but short term makes it feel over all healthier and shiny)
Kevin Murphy is my boyfriend. I LOVE Kevin murphy products; they are cruelty free (huge deal for salon brands), it smells amazing, waaaaay cheaper, and actually works well. I use Hydrate Me shampoo, and give myself a nice head message to get circulation flowing.
Deep Condition. I don't buy regular conditioner, just a deep conditioner because I only wash my hair once a week (if that). I leave it in for 10-15 minutes (sometimes longer, sometimes shorter). I noticed huge changes in my hair when I began to deep condition regularly: softer, smoother, and less dead ends. (do not do this if you wash your hair more frequently) I use Kevin Murphy Angel Masque.
I use a shower cap. This keeps the moisture in, and holds heat so your hair follicles will open up, and absorb the coconut oil or conditioner for a better result.
Buy extensions This is a great excuse to never do your hair. Hear me out.. I throw in my hair extensions, only curl them, and a few pieces of my own hair. This shows illusion of full, wavy, done up hair, when you actually have healthy, barely heat touched hair that's full of volume, and length
This is basically my whole routine! I try not to use heat, and a ton of product unless necessary. when you use your natural hair to your advantage, and style/colour to the most natural, you will notice how much more manageable, better looking, and healthy your hair will be. I use to hate my curls, but now I use them to my advantage. Hope this helps/inspires you ladies to have softer, healthier hair! Having some great tips always motivates me to start a new routine.
HAILEY'S HAIR CARE
I don't wash my hair everyday, like Ray said before. Now, I may not be as much as a hippy as my sister (I tend to wash my hair after a night out, a hot day, working out, or anything that involves me sweating), but after a few days of not washing my hair, it feels softer in the shower. Dry shampoo, and baby powder tend to work the best to stop the greasy look (especially if I'm going to work, or out for the night).
I brush my hair. Not just in the morning, or at night, but as much as I can. Throughout the day my hair gets full of knots!! I try to brush them out so I don't wake up with a crazy knot that takes hours of painful brushing. I tend to shed like a golden retriever; all of my dead ends fall out when I brush out the knots, and causes my hair to be smoother, and healthier. If I'm going out, or to work that day, I brush my hair before I go, and after I get back to prevent the knotting. Tip: Don't brush your hair with a regular brush when wet. If you feel like you have to, I suggest you invest in a Wet Brush.
Moroccan Oil. It's my definition of heaven. The smell, the smoothness, the shininess, and THE SMELL!! It's angelic. I use the Moroccan Oil Hair Treatment after I brush my hair to help with the stress I had just put on my scalp as I ripped out the tangles. It repairs and transports lost proteins for strength, and absorbs instantly to fill gaps in your hair created by heat, styling, and environmental damage. Before I style my hair I use the Moroccan Oil Heat Styling Protector. I recommend to brush out your hair so it's nice and smooth, then spritz a bit of the protector on the ends-middle of your hair (don't spray too much, I find this product to feel heavy in your hair when too much is applied.) And of course, I finish off with the Moroccan Oil Luminous Hairspray Strong to hold my hairstyle for the day!! Just a quick spray around my hair to put a little hold my waves….less is more!!
Deep Conditioning. Deep conditioning has many benefits, but over deep conditioning can cause even more damage, and give you that 'greasy look'. I use the Moroccan Oil Restorative Hair Mask (It actually infuses protein back into the weakened hair shaft so hair becomes stronger, and more beautiful). I throw it in my hair about once a week. If I have the time, I apply the deep conditioner (to the ends-middle of my hair), throw my hair up in a top knot, put a shower cap on, pull a warm towel of the dryer, and wrap it around my head. The heat helps your hair absorb the nutrients in the mask, while making your head feel warm, and cozy. Voila!!
All Naturaaaaal. I used to hate my natural waves/curls when I was younger; but now I embrace it!! If your hair is wavy, crazy curly, or pin straight, own it. It's YOU. Use less heat!! I used to use heat everyday. My hair was so badly burnt that it was zig-zagged, and my once below shoulder length hair was cut to above the shoulder, almost bob cut…..I cried at first. Which you may think is a little dramatic, but I could no longer curl my hair (or it would become even shorter), throw it up in a ponytail, or even put my extensions in without looking ratchet. But it definitely opened my eyes to what hair care really meant, and I learned to rock the short look. My natural waves came back, and I took this as a stepping stone to creating stronger, thicker, and healthier hair. I stopped using so much heat, and my hair started growing faster, and healthier!!
Kevin Murphy. Smells heavenly, cruelty free, amazing results!! Need I say more? I use the Kevin Murphy Hydrate Me shampoo, and it has done wonders in helping me grow out my hair!!
